MSD were engaged by Atkins and Dundee City Council to design and develop a range of monolithic wayfinding information signs for deployment throughout the city centre. Sign types included map, directional, information and transport points, the development of which had to include integration with raised granite plinths from a previous wayfinding scheme which were being retained and re-used.
Concept shapes and sign type functionality were explored after undertaking a study of the streetscape to determine appropriate materials, palette of finishes and colour combinations that would work effectively with the wayfinding graphics themselves, which were developed in conjunction with the team at Atkins.
The final construction design and specification included the use of highly durable, robust materials such as low-iron toughened glass and stainless steel, both of which are well-proven through their use in many public realm signage schemes.
