Bank of Scotland Rebrand

Having collaborated successfully on the design of previous rebrand works for Bank of Scotland and Halifax, MSD were appointed by Lloyds Banking Group to design and develop the full range of external sign types to display Bank of Scotland’s new brand. Fascia branding, projecting signs, architectural lettering and totems signs were required for the rollout of the new brand across the 300+ branch network. Project scope included:

  • Concept design
  • Prototyping and development
  • Detailed product design
  • Site surveys and design schemes for over 300 branches
  • Design of bespoke installation methods and building interfaces at key branches
  • Provision of local authority design packs for advertisement consent applications
  • Technical specification documents

In a reversal of the design language previously used by Bank of Scotland for signage the iconic cross and coins motif appears in blue on a white ground. For both the main fascia branding and projecting signs MSD developed a range of illuminated pods within which the lighting method could be tailored to suit local planning constraints.

As a direct result of a highly effective and fully considered design process, the project was subsequently implemented on schedule and under budget, Lloyds Banking Group being delighted with the design process and the outcome.
