Jim leads our Design Team on major commissions of all types. With more than 30 years of experience in the design and development of wayfinding for passenger terminals he brings an unrivalled breadth and depth of knowledge to each project.
The new wayfinding lightbox used at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 was conceived and designed by Jim and he is renowned for his ability to take challenging concepts and realise them as viable designs. As well as leading the team, Jim maintains a vital hands-on role in every project he leads.
Robert is responsible and accountable for the effective operation and continued development of design across all Merson Group disciplines and locations. He is active in all
of our work in client engagement, project planning, resource management, product design specification and Innovation within design & manufacture. With 19 years’ experience he has an intimate understanding of successful design process.
Trained as a Graphic Designer and gaining extensive experience during his 20 years in the sign industry, Roddy brings an invaluable wealth of design and construction knowledge to any signage project he is a part of.
Recently, as our International Development Director, he has continued to successfully develop our relationships with longstanding key clients, as well as designing products and signage schemes for clients such as Tesco, M&S and TJX Europe.
Presently based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he continues to deliver exceptional product design, customer service and project management.
As Managing Director of MSD and Group Managing Director of Merson Group, Roddy’s strengths lie in the strategic planning and high-level direction of major design projects. Formulation of the project team including sourcing any additional expertise required from our roster of trusted consultants is another key role he excels at.
Having selected and assembled our design project team for Heathrow T5 and managed the delivery of our master-planning, wayfinding and sign design for Abu Dhabi Airport, Roddy has a wealth of major project experience.
Key attributes and roles:
Clay is our Wayfinding Surveyor and Planner and has 25 years’ experience in. He works closely with members of the Merson infrastructure team in surveying, wayfinding planning and developing sign location plans and graphic schedules during project development. Clay is fully conversant with Heathrow signage design guidelines and works on all aspects of sign planning at the airport.
Dan is a degree qualified graphic designer with more than a decade of creative design and manufacture experience. He has worked on wayfinding and brand projects in leisure, hospitality, office and stadium environments for high profile, high design clients. With a focus on achieving successful translation and delivery of a projects design aspirations he collaborates closely with all stakeholders to achieve this.
Former Wayfinding Design Leader for BAA, David has 25 years’ experience in UK and Internatonal airports. His knowledge in auditing and developing wayfinding strategies for airports is unrivalled. He has an understanding of passenger flow analysis, sign planning and graphics. Areas of expertise include dynamic, screen based information, safety planning and strategy for high-security areas.
Ezgi has over 8 years’ experience in the design, architectural and construction industry, with the past 3 years, focusing on airport and transport works with the team in the UK. Through her architectural education and earlier work experiences, Ezgi has the knowledge to plan, accumulate and manage project deliverables and model updates. She is conversant in BIM with competencies in Revit, AutoCAD & Adobe.
Laura has 12 years’ experience working alongside Michelle and is “Our Guru” on most of our clients Wayfinding Design Guidelines. As well as supporting other members of the team to understand “the rules” she produces schedules and artwork which keep us completely compliant.
Nicola has been a key part of our technical department for 9 years, working closely with our production teams to produce detailed 3D models used for manufacture, for many of our largest clients. She manages our technical design team and is also responsible for design standards ensuring our deliverables are compliant with a projects requirements.
Ollie is integral to our creative and technical design development working with many of our largest clients in the retail, automotive, leisure and commercial sectors. His key skills in design concept generation in 2D/3D visualisation combined with sound technical knowledge allow him to present practical design ideas at pace in ways which are informative to all audiences.
Rana specialises in cross-cultural graphical communication and co-designed a new Arabic font to harmonise with the Latin Frutiger at Abu Dhabi Airport. She has 10 years experience in graphic design, brand building, design application and Arabic adaptation for various projects.
Rana works in conjunction with MSD to ensure design and graphics are culturally appropriate for a Middle East client base, as well as contributing to design concepts.
Ross is one of the more technical minds in the team, he has been developing and creating manufacturable product designs in SolidWorks for over 8 years, working across sectors including branding, wayfinding, stadium signage and large structures. With a background in engineering he ensures our technical designs comply with a projects visual and performance specification.
Tarek is a Mechanical Engineer with 11 years experience in Manufacturing, Production Management, Product Design and Development.
Most of Tarek's experience has been gained working on signage and industrial projects in the Middle East and North Africa. He has connections in Saudi Arabia and frequently works there. He is based in, and runs, our Beirut design office and actively project manages our main Saudi contracts.
As a key member of the team, Tarek works on multiple projects delivering excellent client liaison and communication. He keeps track of the deliverables and makes sure that MSD delivers the required scope and meets the milestones on our projects.
